35,000 Nepali dwell, there is almost equal number of people who practice
sending money using Hundi. The Nepalese, who earn monthly Rs.1,00,000 to
Rs.4,00,000 have been using Hundi to send money as it is illegal but
cheap means to transfer money. Due to this reason, Nepal is losing
billions of rupees every year.
Finding the weakness of the government for it is not able to control the
transactions through Hundi, Hundi service providers are extending their
transactions in Korea, Israel, and others where Nepalese have been
working although its charm has decreased after the frauds fled taking
the money earned by the Nepalese; and it has increased the number of
clients for transferring the money through the remittance according to
Nebil Bank’s representative.
“Now, the banking channel has increased; as some days ago, the
Hundi-doers money has been ceased, it has made some improvements in
banking transactions; if it continues, we are hopeful that the banking
service will flourish,” says the representative of Nabil Bank.
Last month, collecting about three crore rupees from dozens of workers,
Sogendra Ghale, who used to be Coordinator of NRN, Korea, fled; because
of what the bank’s remit service is increasing. A lady worker there say,
“At first, though Nepalese did not used to send through remit;
afterward, after the incident, they have paid interest and most of them
are using bank’s remittance service.
In order to open the account for the remit service in Global IME, Nabil,
Investment which are coordinating Korea’s major banks – IBK, KEB, and
Uri, which remain open on Saturday and Sunday.
